Who are you wearing your purse for?
There is a dilemma when you go out with fancy purses. I love fancy purses but I also admit that there is an image when you wear a fancy purse. I've alluded to this in prior posts but this week I really want to talk about it. Today I was eating lunch with my family today and I saw the worst Coach knock off I have seen, maybe ever. Why not wear just a regular bag? Why resort to this terrible thing? I know this other lady that I have an association with and she has a really fancy purse. The kind of purse that has more place holders than I could ever afford. I'm a little envious, if I'm confessing. So my next question is, "What does she do?" This question leads to other questions that maybe I shouldn't be thinking but I'll confess them to you. "How can she afford this fancy purse?" "Is it a gift?" "Is it real?" Most people buy their purses because it is in their style and their price point. They like it and it suits them. I admit that Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, are all above what I should be able to afford as a teacher (which is why I scour second hand stores for a hint of one), but I like them and I want them all the same. Is this bad? Sometimes. Sometimes it makes me envious of those who do have them and appreciative of those people that are so wealthy they can afford to donate their last season bags to second hand stores. Whenever I wear a really fancy purse I think, "Who do I think I am?" "Who am I trying to be?" They say you should dress as the person you want to be. Do I want to be a person who can afford a really fancy purse? And what does that say about me? Am I pretentious? Am I fancy? Am I a snob? Wow!!! These questions are sort of painful!!! Okay, So... I don't know if I'm pretentious. I don't have anything to be pretentious about so maybe I want to try it so I know how it feels. Mainly, I like to get the deal. I like to walk around with something that someone didn't think much of and give it a second shot. I'm quick to say that I get my purses second hand. So I do like a bargain and I like seeing value where someone else sees junk. And here is the main question: Who am I wearing my purses for? I'm wearing them for me and you should too!!!!
The beautiful minty piece that is above is a Dooney and Bourke that I got on a clearance sale with a percentage off on top of the sale. Not only is it a beauty, on clearance with percentage off is a gift. Happy wife, happy life!!! And I'm wearing it because I like it. I bought the purse accessory prior to buying the purse and it matches perfectly. :)
